What is CSR and should we be including it on our next company trip?

CSR stands for corporate social responsibility and is a great piece to add to your next sales kickoff or incentive program. It’s an opportunity for your company to give back to the community through local or global charitable organizations.

Once we are able to travel and be together in person again, our community outreach efforts will be more important than ever. Considering everything that's happened this year, shifting the focus to community engagement may provide a welcome outlet for your employees.

Over the years, we have supported a few organizations that have become great partners. There are two main options when looking for a charity partner: global organizations or local charitable organizations.

Global Organizations:
SolarBuddy
Wine to Water

Both of these organizations not only have a great mission but also deliver it effectively and efficiently. Providing clean water and light to those without are two of the largest needs in underserved communities.

Local Organizations:
Food Banks
Schools / Boys & Girls Clubs
Youth Homes
Orphanages
Habitat for Humanity local chapters

Now that you have some examples of local organizations to partner with for your next CSR event, make sure they have an effective way to distribute donation items so that the right people are getting the right things. A few examples of projects we have done for local organizations include build a bike, build a STEM backpack, and even build a bunkbed for a youth home/orphanage.

We recommend that companies not only provide a CSR experience on a sales kickoff or incentive trip, but also get attendees involved directly by personally donating items, time, or money to the cause. This helps people feel more involved and often means they will continue contributing to the program. For incentive trips, do keep in mind that these attendees have won the trip so make sure you respect their time and make the activity as streamlined and efficient as possible.
